Are you a compassionate woman who wants to make a difference in a girl’s life?
GEM mentors are volunteers who are an essential part of GEM’s large and extended family. Mentors are unbiased supporters who help our GEM girls reach their full potential.
Your commitment can make a BIG difference.
What does it mean for you?
It means you will help to provide support, guidance, and friendship to a high school girl from the Essex community. With the help of GEM, you can build your relationship with your mentee by spending quality time with her twice a month throughout her high school years. These may include attending her sports game, taking a walk, having a picnic, making dinner together, or helping with college applications and visits.
What are the requirements?
• Female
• At least 25 years old
• College graduate
• Pass fingerprinting and background checks
• Willingness to help in a young woman's life
What a Mentor IS:
• A wise and trusted friend
• A positive role model
• A good listener; someone who cares
• Someone who has been there
• Someone to help you get to where you want to go
• Someone who can introduce a young woman to new ideas and opportunities
What a Mentor IS NOT:
• An ATM
• A movie pass
• A chauffeur
• A nag
• A parent
• A babysitter

BE a Speaker
Speakers are an integral part of the GEM curriculum, allowing our girls to hear from women role models about their professional and personal experiences in order to motivate them to achieve their goals. If you are interested in volunteering as a speaker, please fill out the form below to get in touch with us.
BE a HOST
GEM’s mission includes providing our girls with a
variety of opportunities and experiences in order
for them to think big and aspires to reach for goals
they didn’t know were possible.
You can help by providing:
• a tour of your workspace
• job shadowing
• an internship or job
• a service project
• overnight accommodations/retreat center
• a space to create, dance, exercise,
build, nourish, dream….
